Skin tag removal

Get Rid of Skin Tags with a Little Ingenuity

So you have got a little growth of skin that is coming out of your neck, armpit, eyelid, or other unexpected location. It doesn’t seem to be discolored, and although it does get slightly irritated when rubbed, it doesn’t hurt. It sounds like you may have a skin tag, which is often referred to as a benign tumor or skin growth. Although they don’t cause any health problems, many are embarrassed of their appearance, and wish to get rid of skin tags quickly!

Skin tags become more common as we grow older, usually appearing the fastest during our middle-age years. More women it seems, than men, appear to develop skin tags, especially when they are pregnant. There appears to be a link between hormone fluctuations and the formation of skin tags. Most insurance companies will not cover their removal, as they are considered a cosmetic issue rather than a health issue. That is probably why so many people look for ways to get rid of skin tags at home or in the least expensive way.

A quick method you can use to get rid of skin tags is to use a scalpel, pair of scissors, or nail clippers to simply clip the tag away. Before you attempt this method, make sure that you sanitize the blades of your tool with rubbing alcohol or an open flame. You may find that you have some bleeding, but that shouldn’t last longer than about a minute. If you decide to use tweezers to remove the skin tag by pulling, you will want to ensure that you numb the immediate area first and to do this you can use frozen ice cubes or another item that is extremely cold. This will hurt more than simply clipping the skin tag away.

In other method to get rid of skin tags is to use cryotherapy. This involves freezing the skin tags off with a substance called liquid nitrogen, and this will help to wipe out the cell tissue of the skin tag quite quickly. The method may cause some minor scarring and pain, and should never be placed on the same skin area more than one time each week.

A piece of string, fishing line, or dental floss can also be used to get rid of skin tags. The string is used to tie around and cut off the base of the skin tag, and as a result, cutting off its blood supply. After a day or two, the skin tag should fall off. If the area of the skin tags is being irritated by clothing or other skin, you may want to cover the tag with a bandage to avoid further irritation or if you do not wish to get rid of skin tags.

If you are not comfortable with these home methods to get rid of skin tags, you may wish to visit your doctor to hear their suggestions. They may recommend a surgical cryotherapy or even electrolysis which will destroy the skin tags’ growth and prevent other skin tags from appearing from beneath the skin. Your doctor will also be able to diagnose if the skin tags are something more serious then benign growths.
