4 Most Common Ways of Getting Rid of Skin Tags

Skin tags are growths that appear on the surface of our skin. They usually form in areas where our skin gets lots of chaffing. The most common areas to get a skin tag are your eyelid, your armpit, your neck and your groin area. Even though these are the most common areas, it is possible to get a skin tag on any part of your body. If you have ever had one then you know how ugly and unappealing they are. Getting rid of skin tags is the most pressing question someone has. Thankfully there are many ways that you can use to get rid of skin tags.

Tie with cotton string
One of the easiest ways for getting rid of skin tags is to tie the tag with a piece of cotton string. You tie a piece of cotton string around the skin tag at the base where it extrudes from your skin. You try to tie it pretty tight. You do not have to worry about it cutting off circulation because a skin tag has no nerves. It will not hurt regardless of how tight you tie the cotton string. In 4 to 5 days or possibly up to a week, you will find the skin tag will fall off.

The only problem people have with this method is when the skin tag is in a visible place. Other people will have a tendency to stare if you have a piece of string tied to your skin. This may make you uncomfortable. If it does there are other methods you can use.

Cutting off the skin tag
Another method of getting rid of skin tags is to actually cut it off. This method involves using a pair of very sharp scissors and a pair of teasers. You use the teasers to grab the top of the skin tag and pull it away from your skin. Then you use the scissors to get the skin tag at its base as close to your skin as possible. It is possible to have some slight bleeding when you cut the skin tag. If that happens apply pressure for a minute or two until the bleeding stops. If the sight of blood makes you squeamish then this might not be the best method for you to try.

Freezing them off
Freezing is another option for getting rid of skin tags that will not involve blood and is relatively painless. You can do this at home or let a doctor do it at a doctor’s office. Either way, the method involves applying a very large Q-tip filled with chemicals directly to the skin tag. The chemical will actually freeze the skin tag and it will fall off. The chemicals will not hurt or damage the skin around the skin tag.

Burning them off
Burning is the most challenging method for getting rid of skin tags. I recommend letting a doctor do this instead of doing it at home. Heat is applied to the skin tag until it falls off.
